Jacquelyn Lombos was driving having a friend from her home in Woodbridge to Hampton Roads when she stopped for gas in Henrico and drove away a big winner.
She purchased a Millionaire Maker scratcher ticket for the Virginia Lottery. The two friends took turns scratching the ticket whilst they anxiously waited for that vehicle’s gas tank to fill.
They soon discovered the ticket was worth $1 million, based on a lottery news release.
“He checked out it, and I checked out it,” she remembered. “We asked, ‘Is this legitimate? Is this for real?”
They returned the ticket into the Fas Mart at 5101 Richmond Henrico Turnpike and the clerk confirmed it had been a large winning ticket.
Lombos had the option of using the full $1 million in annual payments over 3 decades or a one-time cash choice of $601,684 before taxes. She finally decided on the cash option.
The shop gets a $10,000 bonus in the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning scratcher ticket.
Lombos, who is an adjunct professor and also works in healthcare, stated she promises to take proper care of her family using the winnings, including having to pay for her daughter’s college.
The chances of winning topping prize in Millionaire Maker are about one in 244,800.
Prince William County received greater than $39.7 million in lottery funds for K-12 public education last fiscal year, based on lottery officials.
