About the Minnesota Lottery

The Minnesota Lottery was established in 1988 through a successful voter referendum that approved two constitutional amendments: One created the Minnesota State Lottery and the other created the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund. Tickets went on sale in 1990, and within one week, the MN Lottery had sold $15 million worth of tickets. The revenue generated from the Minnesota Lottery is allocated to the State General Fund, and more than $3 billion has been put back into the state through various programs and funds thanks to the MN Lottery. The lottery supports health services, local governments, public safety, and educational initiatives. Any remaining funds at the end of the fiscal year are given to the Natural Resources Fund, the Game and Fish Fund, and the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.

The MN Lottery offers several games to Minnesota residents including Powerball, Mega Millions, Daily 3, Gopher 5, Lotto America, Lucky for Life, and Northstar Cash.
