About the Kentucky Lottery

The Kentucky Lottery began in November of 1988 when voters cast their ballots in favor of a state lottery. One month later, it officially launched when laws were signed and approved by Governor Wallace Wilkinson. Tickets went on sale the following April, and more than $5 million worth of instant games were sold on the very first day.

Since then, the KY Lottery has generated more than $5.2 billion in revenue for the state’s Commonwealth, as well as education funding used for tuition grants and scholarships.
