About the Montana Lottery

The Montana Lottery was created officially in 1986 with the passage of Legislative Referendum 100. The first tickets went on sale on June 24, 1987, and Montanans were clearly excited to play - a record-setting 1.1 million tickets were sold on the very first day.

Since the 90s, MT Lottery revenue has gone back into the State General Fund, which funds the majority of state programs, including public health and education, and government. Nearly $260 million has been generated for the state by the MT Lottery since its inception, and more than $590 million has been paid out in prize money.
