On January 20, 1986, the Missouri Lottery began selling tickets within the state of Missouri. At its start, MO Lottery proceeds were directed to Missouri's General Revenue Fund. In 1992, Missouri voters approved an amendment to earmark lottery proceeds for public education. Since July 1993, all lottery profits have gone to education programs appropriated by the State Legislature.
Since 1986, the MO Lottery has generated over $21.1 billion in revenue and contributed more than $6 billion to Missouri and public education.
