The Michigan Lottery began on November 13, 1972 with a game called the “Green Ticket”. On October 7, 1975, the first instant game ticket was sold. Terminal-based games began on June 6, 1977, when the Daily 3 game was first introduced. The first "Michigan Lotto" game was introduced on August 13, 1984. The first “The Big Game” (now Mega Millions) ticket was sold on August 31, 1996. Since its start, the MI Lottery has donated more than $20.7 billion to the School Aid Fund including more than $700 million each of the past 11 years.
For the past 5 years, the MI Lottery contributions to the School Aid Fund total $4.1 billion.
