The Florida Lottery started in 1986 after voters authorized a lottery through a constitutional amendment, passed by a two-to-one margin, that would use its proceeds to invest into the Florida public education system.
The Florida Lottery’s first game was a $1 Scratch-Off called MILLIONAIRE, exceeding $95 million in sales, which set a lottery industry record. In fact, MILLIONAIRE was so successful that within just 17 days the FL Lottery was able to repay the original startup funding borrowed from the state’s General Revenue Fund.
Since its beginning, the FL Lottery has continuously added variety to its portfolio of lottery games. FL Lottery hasn’t been afraid to shake up the traditional lottery model. They’ve experimented with higher price points, enhanced traditional lottery games, and introduced seasonal promotional games.
