The Florida Lottery started in 1986 after voters authorized a lottery through a constitutional amendment, passed by a two-to-one margin, that would use its proceeds to invest into the Florida public education system.

In fact, MILLIONAIRE was so successful that within just 17 days the FL Lottery was able to repay the original startup funding borrowed from the state’s General Revenue Fund.
