How much will I pay in taxes if I win the CT lottery?

For prizes of $600 or more, state tax withholdings are 6.99%. For prizes of $5,000 or more, 6.99% is withheld for state taxes and 24% is withheld for federal taxes.

Can I remain anonymous if I win the lottery in Connecticut?

No, the CT Lottery considers a winner's name, city/town, and the prize amount a matter of public record unless the winner provides an Address Confidentiality Program authorization card or valid protective order.

About the Connecticut Lottery

In June 1971, Governor Thomas J. Meskill signed Public Act 865 to create the Connecticut Lottery with the intention of generating revenue for the state. On February 15, 1972, ticket sales opened at 3,000 retailers across the state.

In the 2019 fiscal year, players won more than $822 million in prize money. The CT Lottery also returned $370 million to the state's General Fund, which supports multiple valuable services and programs including public health, libraries, public safety, education, and more. Since its inception, the CT Lottery's contributions to the General Fund have exceeded $10 billion.
