On November 4, 2008, the voters of Arkansas approved a ballot question legalizing the sale of lottery tickets in Arkansas, thereby creating the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Act established a commission to oversee the administration of the lottery in Arkansas.
The AR Lottery voted to join the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) on July 1, 2009, becoming the 33rd lottery to join. Powerball tickets went on sale in Arkansas on October 31, 2009 and Mega Millions tickets on January 31, 2010.
Since AR Lottery sales started in 2009, the AR Lottery has provided more than $781 million for in-state college scholarships to Arkansas students, more than $2.6 billion in prizes to lottery players, and more than $228 million in commissions to lottery retailers.
