Lottery, Casino Bills Filed in Alabama but Outlook Unclear

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Proposals to begin a state lottery – or to allow the Poarch Gang of Creek Indians to possess casino games – have begun within the Alabama Legislature, but it’s unclear when the bills will be voted on. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has requested lawmakers to hold off on gambling debates as she awaits a study from the fact-finding task force she created. Legislative leaders have shown willingness to hold off, at least temporarily.
