A 47-year-old customer service representative from Wilmington, Delaware, turned a $50,000 winning POWERBALL ticket into $100,000 by adding Power Play to her POWERBALL purchase. The married woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning ticket at Market Street Shell in Wilmington, Delaware.
“I scanned the ticket in the machine, and it made a beeping sound,” said the winner. “I didn’t remember it making that sound before, so I took it to another machine, and it made the same sound. That beeping sound meant it was a winner! I’ve been playing a couple of dollars here and there, but I never expected to win anything major—and certainly not this big.”
“Instead of bringing in one ticket at a time to check them, I like to bring in a stack,” said the woman. “I get encouraged when I hear about big winners in the area, so when I bring them in all at once, I’m usually guaranteed to walk away with something!“
The woman is not planning to tell anyone about the win, but wants to use her winnings to send her son to college. Her son is currently a freshman in high school. In addition, she is going to put the money toward her mortgage and pay off debt.
The woman claimed her $100,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters on Wednesday, March 1.
