OVERLAND PARK COUPLE CLAIMS $200,000 POWERBALL PRIZE

TOPEKA, KAN. – An Overland Park couple, who requested anonymity, has claimed a $200,000 Powerball prize for matching the first five numbers in the Jan. 23 Powerball drawing. The $2 Quick Pick ticket was just one number away from the jackpot! The winning numbers for the Jan. 23 drawing are 15-16-20-42-53 Powerball 17. The lucky winners only missed the Powerball number. The Powerball number on their ticket was 12.
“We didn’t realize we’d won until Tuesday afternoon,” explained the winner. “I went to buy tickets for Wednesday’s drawing and decided I had better check my tickets from Saturday’s drawing first. When I scanned my ticket the Check-A-Ticket read, ‘Sign back of ticket. Redeem at Lottery.’ I didn’t know what that meant, so I asked a store clerk and she informed me that I had won over $599.”
After returning home, the couple looked up the winning numbers on the Lottery’s website.
“We couldn’t believe how much we’d won,” said the winner. “We’ve been playing Powerball for 10 years. We always buy two tickets for each drawing. One ticket has numbers we picked ourselves and the second ticket is always a Quick Pick ticket. I figured if we ever won, we’d win on our own numbers since we play those twice a week. What a nice surprise.”
The Overland Park winners were undecided how they would spend their winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Hen House 33, located at 6900 W. 135th St. in Overland Park.
