TOPEKA RESIDENT “DIGS UP” $10,000 TOP PRIZE

TOPEKA, KAN. – Johnny Means of Topeka lives an exciting life as a superintendent of a Badger Ditcher for Loram, a railroad maintenance company. He travels across the country “ditch digging.” While in town yesterday, Means dug up a different kind of excitement. He purchased a $2 Mega Slots instant scratch ticket, winning a $10,000 top prize!
“Last week, my mom moved to an apartment,” explained Means. “To cheer her up and to give her something to do, I purchased several different scratch tickets for her. There were two tickets left of the 11 I bought, so I gave one to my brother Bob, who was visiting, and I scratched the other one. After Bob was done scratching his ticket, he looked over at me and said, ‘I think we have a winner!’”
According to Means, he is not a big player of Kansas Lottery games. He usually buys tickets and gives them to his mom, who enjoys playing the different games.
“Since I’m not real familiar with the games, I figured there must be some kind of catch to that ticket,” said Means. “I showed the ticket to four or five people before I could believe we had a winning ticket. My mom was thrilled.”
After paying a few bills, Means plans to give the rest of his prize money to his mom so she can take a vacation.
The winning ticket was purchased at Discount Smokes, located at 1221 SW 21st St. in Topeka.
