SECOND TIME IS A CHARM FOR RAPHINE "MAXIMUM" WINNER
November 13, 2009
Don’t call Jennifer Andrus of Raphine a quitter. She recently played the Virginia Lottery’s Maximum Millions game and did not win. She came back to the same store later in the day and bought another ticket from the same game.
With the second ticket she won the top prize: the choice of either $1 million over 25 years or an immediate cash option of $564,000.
She bought the winning ticket at Hunter Hill, located at 889 North Lee Highway in Lexington. On November 13, Ms. Andrus returned to the store to receive her prize from Virginia Lottery officials. She chose to take the cash option of $564,000 before taxes. The store also received a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the ticket.
This is the second major winner the store has sold in less than three years. In February 2007, Mary Lawhorne of Rockbridge County won $1,000 per week for life with a Win For Life ticket she bought there.
Ms. Andrus is the fifth player to claim the top prize of $1 million over 25 years in Maximum Millions, which means there are still 10 top-prize tickets yet to be claimed.
